~Program Overview~
Students learn best when knowledge acquisition is intertwined with real-life experiences rendering their learning both memorable and useful in their life journey. We create learning environments that encourage curiosity and exploration. Learners find new joy and fulfillment in the pursuit of knowledge, sparking a lifelong love for exploration and personal growth. To accomplish this, our daily schedules are held loosely and are readily modified to capitalize on dynamic learning moments.
- Every Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, students engage in hands-on farm and garden work, physical training, and entrepreneurial projects.
- The day begins with Socratic Conversation where we discuss various aspects of our code of conduct and the challenges we face in those commitments. A time for reflection through journaling is important before the activities of the day are launched.
- Mornings involve garden time and animal care. Each student is responsible for their own plot, its planting and care. A robust time of calisthenics follows and then lessons in animal husbandry and bee keeping.
- Lunchtime offers a chance for communal meal preparation and culinary skill-building using farm-fresh ingredients whenever possible. Food choices are analyzed by their role in building healthy minds and bodies. Students are taught to read labels and become responsible for how they fuel their bodies.
- Afternoons are dedicated to entrepreneurial pursuits from conceptualization to product creation. Students begin with idea boards and move through the development of business plans, mission statements, budgets and bookkeeping, and branding and marketing.
- Flex Fridays offer classes such as painting, clay, woodworking, archery, or canoeing. These optional classes will be announced at the beginning of each month. Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis and fees are paid separately from tuition. Each student must pack their own lunch on Fridays.
- First Saturday of each month is reserved for Family Farm Day. Families come together for an afternoon of support, renewal, and a shared meal prepared by the students themselves. We end the day with a memorable evening around the bonfire.
- The farm is open every day to any family who wishes to garden, explore, picnic, or use the barns for additional learning.
- Market Day is an opportunity for students to showcase their creations to the public. It is a special day of celebration culminating each semester.
